about

SOJI is an abbreviation of the Yoruba name 'Adesoji' - ‘the crown is revived’. When used everyday, it means to be knowledgeable or WOKE.

Sonically, it rockets my "Afrobop" sound out of this world, blending Coupé Décale breaks with rap lyrics sung in English, Yoruba and Pidgin. Conceptually, it starts a new era of self-acceptance & knowledge of self-worth.

The song's chorus, sang in Yoruba, translates to "I'm woke. Banana is not money. A child is not a monkey”.

SOJI is more than a song for me, it's defining a new way of life. A purposeful one.

lyrics

My o my o, mo ti soji
Ogede no be money o
My o my o, mo ti soji
Omode no be monkey o

I was raised not to need much to get by
But life's a race, so I need to go get mine
Now I raise to my needs when I get up
Imma get mine x2

My o my o, mo ti soji
Ogede no be money o
My o my o, mo ti soji
Omode no be monkey

If tin monkey see
Na tin monkey do
If tin monkey see
Na tin monkey do

My o my o, mo ti soji
Ogede no be money o
My o my o, mo ti soji
Omode no be monkey

I Count my blessings, my checklist, my chequings
Life's a lesson, never second guess it
Can't finesse it, finances invest it
Imma get mine x2

My o my o, mo ti soji
Ogede no be money o
My o my o, mo ti soji
Omode no be monkey

If tin monkey see
Na tin monkey do
If tin monkey see
Na tin monkey do
